You should do tutorials for sculpting details on base meshes and converting to normals. Most of such tutorials are done by people doing games. Your insight in character sculpting will teach us better.

Every release of Zbrush used to be exciting. Haven't felt that way once since Maxon bought them out. The program is still full of a ton of features, but I feel other sculpting companies can surpass them over time. Even VR sculpting apps are starting to become usable.

Let’s address the elephant in the room. Maxon bought zbrush and did a table flip with the licensing structure. Most professionals despise Maxon for this and actually want to leave Zbrush. Maxon can get away with this for a short time, but more and more once loyal customers are now fed up. I’ve worked with zbrush professionally since 2007 and I can’t wait to be done with it. I’ve been slowly transitioning to blender myself over the past couple of years. The biggest drawback with Blender I see right now is you can’t easily handle as many polygons as you can in zbrush. It’s pretty standard to have a 50 million poly bust when doing realistic likeness busts these days. It’s almost a minimum. However, pcs are getting stronger all the time and this will naturally be resolved. Blender keeps adding some quality of life features and it will actually be better then zbrush in the near future. Software should be free for everyone that isn’t making money off of it. So if you’re an artist building your portfolio up, it should all be free. Then when you work at studio, the studio pays for licenses you depend on for production. It’s simple really, you can lock in your user base this way because artists are already attached to said software. Pixologic understood this and did this for years building up there user base with a 1 time license purchasing structure. Now Maxon came along and undid everything Pixologic worked towards in one fell swoop. I think a lot of folks don’t want to talk bad about companies for obvious reasons, but this is the truth of the matter.

Niko, can you make a video for beginners explaining when to transit from dynamesh stage to subdivision levels stage on character sculpting? I think it is a great subject for beginners. I bought a nice course from you but while watching it, at some point a have found myself in this issue. Can you help? Thanks man, you are a great artist and a wonderful tutor, keep it going!!

Ya I’m really don’t like how zbrush and how it works I like blender more then zbrush not because zbrush it ok problem but zbrush just doesn’t work well for me unlike Nomed sculpt or blender they probably are better 3D sculpt program for me if you like it that fine but it doesn’t have that feeling like like blender or Nomed sculpt

I've been trying to get into 3d sculpting for YEARS, maybe over a decade at this point and THIS is the tutorial that unlocked everything for me. Each beginning tutorial out there for 3d scuplting/blender either says "you can't really sculpt in Blender because Zbrush is so much better", which is so unhelpful, because as you said, they are not really comparable programs. Zbrush is a beast and does have a million other tools for sculpting and I'm sure it's a million times better, but it's not like Blender is without that capacity to start - and all I needed was that: a starting point. Meanwhile, every other Blender program out there starts off with 5 hours of extremely basic 3d modelling and interface familiarity -- which is important sure! But I've been an artist for decades now and I am familiar with creative software and have messed around with Blender enough to understand some of the basic functions. The slog of creating primitive models (often not even sculpts!!) and going through the functions that I don't really care for at the beginning (why introduce me to materials in the first 10 minutes?) when I really just want a digital analog for clay is so defeating. Anyways, this is a very long comment to say: THANK YOU. In the first literal 10 minutes of your video, you have enabled me to do exactly what I have been trying to achieve in 3d modelling in the past decade and have been stopped by inane walls of useless classes and information. I'm excited to continue my first actual functional sculpt with your walkthrough of controls and tools and I'm bookmarking the courses you linked as well!

Your work had a professional look when you used ZBrush, but it doesn't anymore. I apologize for giving my honest opinion. But that's what I see in your models. The characters are simple, and it makes them look mediocre compared to the ones you made with ZBrush. I know Blender is cool, but it can't reach the level of polygons, precision and tools that ZBrush has. I believe you know this, but since you teach classes for beginners, I believe this is the reason.

Dude, your sculpting has come really far after 5 years from here.

Now with Zbrush you will have to pay until you die because there is no permanent license.

I have worked for so many clients who have provided really bad concepts,then when i try to improve the 3d model, they insist I stick to the original bad concept really frustrating its good to get paid, but those pieces rarely go in my folio :/

Hello. Why you dont use Mouse-look Navigation addon? This make navigation like in zbrush and absolutely free. Very popular.
